If you haven't yet already tried a blood orange then you really need to taste this most delectable fruit. They are currently in our supermarkets and will probably be available for at least another few weeks. There are two types available: Cara Cara and the Moro. The peel of the Moro will often exhibit a dark red blush in spots and the flesh will be dark wine colour. Corey was frequently requesting these for recess until I realized it had nothing to do with the taste or nutritional value but everything to do with shocking the girls with the juic
y 'bloody' interior. *Sigh--I see I have raised yet another charmer.The exterior of the Cara Cara appears like an ordinary orange but the flesh will vary from a pale red to pink.
Both varieties are juicy, sweet, and very very good.

Blood Orange Martini
Ingredients:
3 ounces premium vodka
Freshly squeezed juice from 1 blood orange
Freshly squeezed juice from 1/2 lime
1 splash Cointreau
3/4 ounce simple syrup
Ice
Instructions:
Combine ingredients in a cocktail shaker. Shake vigorously for 1 minute. Strain into martini glasses and enjoy!

Second of all, I agree, those cara cara oranges are amazing. Why didn't I think of making a martini out of it??? And thirdly, I see Corey is well on his way to becoming a chick magnet. Well, okay, maybe not yet. But then, you don't have to worry about him taking off to Hawaii for Christmas anytime soon!!!
